OUR STORY
RIATA RANCH EQUINE
Ty and Rhonda Saulsberry are the proud owners of Riata Ranch Equine. Having been raised with backgrounds in the agriculture and ranching lifestyle, their trails first crossed in the early years of junior rodeo. From high school sweethearts to college, Ty and Rhonda would proceed to achieve titles in both state and regional rodeo competitions. At eighteen years old, Ty won the 1990 Houston Tie Down Roping title as a PRCA rookie. The Saulsberry’s have been blessed to achieve rodeo successes in many levels of competition; junior, high school, college, amateur and professional.
In addition to their passion for breeding, training and competing on AQHA performance horses, they raise angus cattle on their 42-section ranch in central New Mexico, which includes the beautiful and historic La Drone Mountain. The initial breeding program was created by adding the purchase of AQHA stallion Lefty Starlight, from Bobby Lewis in 2008, to the existing collection of AQHA mares. In addition to twelve years of

expert oversight by Dr. David Orton, DVM, Ty then acquired an Equine A-I Certification from Colorado State University in 2009. It was at this time he decided to offer his breeding expertise to the public and the program has been growing ever since. They also enjoy training roping horses for their use, competition, and for sale. Taking these outstanding offspring and applying experience and time is key. The foundation for the colts is working them on the ranch as two- and three-year-old’s before advancing them to the arena for solid fundamentals and finish. Ty and Rhonda credit quality horses to their success, both in and out of the arena.
Welcome To Our Family!
The year 2021 brought many new blessings; first, was the new addition to the family, with Rhonda giving birth to Trye Wayne Saulsberry. New brood mares were selected (Lefty Starlight daughters), and recipient mares added. New stallions were chosen to stand in addition to Lefty Starlight: Play Something Blu (Player); RR Crimson N Clover (Rooster) and a potential stallion Lefty’s Blonde Playboy (Playboy, a Lefty colt). A new facility upwards of forty-two acres was acquired just an hour from the ranch in Belen, New Mexico. This facility will house expanded services now available with attending reproduction specialist Dr. Andreas Estrada, DVM, DACT, DECAR.
Ty and Rhonda are proud to introduce Riata Ranch Equine for roping horse sales, and your complete breeding services including stallion and mare care; recipient mares; embryo transfers; artificial insemination; semen freezing; and general reproduction.
